Colors convey profound implications with them in each culture. Western, Far Eastern, Middle Eastern, Indian, and African societies have unmistakable contrasts in the imagery of shadings inside their societies. For example, in certain societies, white addresses innocence, however in others, it can address death. The imagery of colors frequently originates from religious, spiritual, social, or historical events .

Red incites the most grounded feelings of any color in color psychology. While cool colors like blue and green are normally considered peaceful and calming, red is considered the warmest and most contradictory of the colors.

Red symbolizes love and passion in many countries in North and South America, and Europe. In America, Valentine's Day is represented with red hearts to celebrate love. Red has several meanings in Indian culture. Red can represent fear, wealth, purity, love, marriage, and beauty. Women wearing red henna on their hands and sindoor, a red powder, along their hairlines mean that they are married.

In China, red represents luck and fertility. For example, during the Chinese New Year's celebration, small red envelopes are distributed to symbolize good fortune. Women often wear red on their wedding days to symbolize fertility and a marked change in a woman's life. In Thailand, red symbolizes their sun god Surya. Red also marks Sunday, as every day of the week in Thailand is represented by a certain color.

Red in African cultures symbolizes death and grief. In Nigeria and South Africa, red symbolizes violence and sacrifice. The flag of South Africa has red in it to symbolize the violence that occurred during its fight for freedom.

The use of red color happens differently in every place like office buildings or home offices, in the living room, and in the bedroom. In offices, red inspires leadership, willpower, high energy levels, and friendship. When used in the living room, the color red in all its shades inspires friendship and stimulates conversation. In the bedroom, where it kindles feelings of love, desire, and passion.

Can you also reference your writing to key texts. Use Google Scholar or the library to find texts to support your writing. Look at Cadmium Red by John Berger.

Keep developing your thinking about colour and pattern. Could you spend a day painting red on sheets of paper and see what affect it has on you?
